Great interview. I somehow got my hands on two cassette tapes of "Washarama" back in high school in the early 80's and we wore them both out.

I grew up in Pasadena, Texas, across the Gulf Freeway from Pearland and we all loved The Judy;s back then. I wish they'd got a big record deal or something because everybody I knew had "Washarama" even if they only had a bootleg duplicate because it was so hard to find the album. Back then we had money to spend and would have spent a lot of it on The Judy;s if we could have gotten it.

I just downloaded some of The Judy's stuff on YouTube and I was looking for The Dishes album, again. I've been looking for them off and on for over twenty years. Ever since I lost the only tape of them I've ever seen or heard. My ex-girlfriend brought it back from Texas A&M and I stole it from her. When someone stole it from me, for some reason, she refused to get me another one. Women!

I googled every combination I could think of; "dishes band 80's punk rock college band", and nothing. Then I decided one more search and since I had always thought they sounded a lot like The Judy's I did a search for; "the dishes the judys" and 'bam'! Your interview came up and you made the connection for me I've been trying to make for twenty-something years! Thank you, man!

Now, any idea where I can get another Disheses album (the one with "I Like Girls With Glasses" on it) or anything by The Judy's? Thanks again. You've made my day.

PS, did he mention Texas Tapes and Records when talking about the record stores that let them sell their music? They don't make bands like The Judy's anymore or record stores like that.

you know, I just love "governing takes brains"
it has the perfect melody and the sarcastic lyrics compliment it euphorically. but I can't find that 'enraged' cd anywhere for under like $50. too bad, my needle skips when I play the vinyl too loud in my office.

bottom line, I miss McCarthy.
